Pastor Olumide Emmanuel has challenged traditional views on submission within marriage, asserting that it is not exclusively a woman’s responsibility.
Speaking on the topic, he emphasized that Christian marriages should align with kingdom principles rather than cultural expectations.
He urged men to respect their wives’ perspectives and acknowledge the value of their insights, stating that submission is a two-way street.
“Men, I will tell you for free, respect a woman’s sensitivity if you want to do well in life. Ask any married man that will be honest with you—there are things that if we did not listen to our wives, we’d be in trouble by now. And there are times we didn’t listen, and we entered trouble,” he said.
Pastor Emmanuel criticized the cultural mindset that frames men as the sole decision-makers in the household, urging younger individuals not to adopt such attitudes.
“Don’t let Africa kill you with the ‘I’m a man of this house’ mentality. Marriage is not an African culture—it’s a kingdom culture. The Bible says, ‘submitting yourselves one to another.’ Mutual submission is a kingdom agenda for marriage. So, there are times you need to submit to your wife,” he added.
The pastor’s message has sparked conversations about the evolving dynamics of marital roles and the importance of mutual respect and humility in relationships.
