Police inspector ‘stabs man to death’ over alleged refusal to give N200 bribe

A tragic incident unfolded in Yobe State on Sunday, resulting in the death of AbdulMalik Galadima at the hands of Police Inspector Mohammed Bulama.

The altercation began when Bulama demanded N200 from Galadima, which he was unable to provide.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the incident occurred in Zango, Nasarawa ward, around 5:05 PM.

“On Sunday, 29th September 2024, Inspector Mohammed Bulama of the Mopol Police Squad in Damaturu, was involved in the fatal assault of an innocent civilian, AbdulMalik Dauda Galadima, in the Zango community, Nasarawa ward,” the publication said.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that Galadima’s inability to pay led to Bulama’s aggression, culminating in a violent assault.

“In a horrifying escalation, Bulama allegedly slashed Galadima’s neck and stabbed him in the chest, leading to his death on the spot.”

Human rights organizations are now calling for justice and accountability from the Yobe police command and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The community has appealed to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, civil society organizations, and government officials to intervene.

In response to the incident, Yobe police command spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed Bulama’s arrest.

“The commissioner of police CP Garba Ahmed has ordered the immediate investigation into the homicide incident involving Inspector.

Mohammed Bulama, attached to Police Mobile Force PMF, 41 Division, Damaturu,” the statement reads.

The dispute began over an uncleared transaction at Zango Area, escalating into a fatal fight.

Bulama, 38, sustained head injuries and was promptly arrested at the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters.

The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has commenced investigation, and Bulama is currently in custody pending internal disciplinary action and prosecution.

“CP Garba Ahmed condemns Bulama’s actions and expresses condolences to Dauda’s family. He assures the public of a thorough and swift investigation, ensuring justice is served,” Abdulkarim said.

“The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate any misconduct from its personnel. We will ensure that justice is served and the perpetrator is held accountable.”
