EPL: He wants to leave – Guardiola drops transfer bombshell about Man City star
Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has asked to leave the Premier League club.
This was revealed by manager Pep Guardiola on Saturday.
Walker was dropped for City’s 8-0 win over Salford City in the FA Cup third round.
However, it has now emerged that the England defender is fit and available.
After the game at the Etihad, Guardiola confirmed that Walker spoke with him on Thursday, that he wants to leave City to “explore opportunities abroad.”
Guardiola said: “Two days ago Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad at the end of his career.
“He asked two years ago after the Treble. Bayern Munich wanted him but the offer was not good enough.
“I asked him, the club asked him, how important is this?
“We cannot understand the success the club had these years without Kyle. It’s impossible. He gave us something we didn’t have and he’s been amazing.
“But now in his mind he would like to explore to go to another country. For that reason, I prefer to play other players whose mind is here, that’s all.”
Walker has dropped down the pecking order under Guardiola and is now trying to force an exit.
There is interest in the 34-year-old from Saudi Arabia.
