Alia declares Friday work-free day ahead Benue LG polls

The Benue state governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has declared Friday, October 4, 2024, as a work-free day to ensure preparations for the upcoming local government elections.

This declaration aims to enable residents to travel to their respective local government areas and participate in the polls on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Governor Alia explained the significance of active citizenship in shaping the state’s future, encouraging all eligible voters to utilize the work-free day to fulfill their civic obligations.

He expressed optimism that with collective commitment, the elections would be conducted efficiently and fairly.

According to a statement by Chief Press Secretary Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia urged public and private sector organizations to support the government by granting employees the day off for travel and election preparations.

” I charge all public and private sectors and organisations to support the government by allowing their employees to utilise the day for travel and preparation for the election,” Kula quoted the governor as saying.

Additionally, Alia emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct and cooperation among citizens, political parties, and stakeholders to ensure a harmonious electoral process.
