Kylian Mbappe has admitted to his struggles after another missed penalty contributed to Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat against Athletic Club at San Mames.
This marks the second consecutive week where the French star has failed to convert from the spot, following his saved penalty during a 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League.
Athletic Club goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala’s save proved decisive, adding to mounting pressure on Mbappe, whose start at Real Madrid has been underwhelming.
After the match, manager Carlo Ancelotti publicly defended his player, emphasizing the importance of support during challenging periods.
Mbappe also addressed the situation through an Instagram post, stating:
“Bad result. A big mistake in a match where every detail counts.
“I take full responsibility for it. A difficult moment, but it’s the best time to change this situation and show who I am.”
Real Madrid will face Girona next on Saturday night, offering the Frenchman another opportunity to prove himself.
