La Liga: Hansi Flick suffer first home defeat as Las Palmas stun Barcelona 2-1

Barcelona’s celebrations for their 125th anniversary were overshadowed by a shock 2-1 defeat to Las Palmas at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

The loss marked Hansi Flick’s first home defeat since taking charge and extended the Blaugrana’s winless streak in La Liga to three matches.

The match started with both teams finding opportunities in the final third, but neither could capitalize on their chances.

Fermin Lopez squandered Pablo Torre’s well-placed pass for Barcelona, while Fabio Silva narrowly missed converting for Las Palmas.

A worrying moment came when Alejandro Balde was stretchered off after a collision with Sandro Ramirez, causing a brief delay in the game.

Despite late first-half chances for Pedri and Raphinha, the scoreline remained level at the break.

However, Las Palmas struck five minutes into the second half with a counter-attack.

Sandro Ramirez, a former Barcelona player, slotted the ball past Inaki Pena to give the visitors the lead.

Barcelona responded through Raphinha, who cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot into the bottom corner to equalize.

But Las Palmas regained their advantage shortly after, with Silva outpacing the defense to calmly finish and restore their lead.

Despite introducing Lamine Yamal and other substitutes, Barcelona struggled to break down Las Palmas’ defense.

A stunning save from the visitors goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen to deny a Raphinha free-kick and a late penalty appeal for Pau Victor left the Catalans frustrated.

Barcelona are now left with one point and five goals conceded in three La Liga games.
