Ondo Election: Over 90% results uploaded to INEC portal as BVAS glitches persist
Over 90% of polling unit results from Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election have been successfully uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing (IReV) portal.
The latest update on the portal was recorded at 6:18 p.m., signaling significant progress in the collation process.
The main candidates in the election include Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Despite the progress, the election faced some technical challenges. Miss Angela Oshogwe, the Presiding Officer at Polling Unit 19, Ward 11, Olamojuba in Ondo West Local Government Area, reported issues with the Bio-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine, which struggled to recognize the faces of some elderly voters.
Oshogwe confirmed that she had reported the issue to the relevant authorities for resolution.
“There is the possibility of the BVAS functioning before the close of voting,” she said, expressing hope for a resolution to the issue.
Reacting to the incident, Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, confirmed that the commission was aware of the development but clarified that it affected “very limited” polling units.
As vote collation continues across the state, INEC’s efforts to ensure the process remains transparent and inclusive are being closely monitored by stakeholders and citizens alike.
