Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the Rivers State governance issue.
George called on Tinubu to prevent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from interfering with Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration.
In a statement, George warned that Tinubu would face consequences if Wike’s influence went unchecked, undermining democracy during his tenure.
He emphasized the importance of allowing elected officials to perform their duties without interference.
“Now that the people of Rivers State have boldly asserted their civic and constitutional rights by coming out to vote in the local government election on Saturday – this is the time for the former governor of the state and now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to allow Governor Siminalayi Fubara to govern and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.”
“This is also the time for President Bola Tinubu to advise Wike, who is one of his ministers, to allow the governor to work.”
George’s remarks follow the local government elections in Rivers State, held without Nigeria Police Force participation.
The Action People’s Party won 22 local government areas, while Action Alliance secured one seat.
After the swearing-in of newly elected council chairpersons, the state Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress factions rejected the election conduct and results.
The PDP faction loyal to Wike deemed the election a failure and vowed to challenge the results in court.
