Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has pledged to upgrade the state’s health training institutions with modern equipment to enhance teaching and learning standards, ensuring the production of highly skilled healthcare professionals.

Speaking on Sunday at a reception held in honour of the outgoing Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Faruk, Aliyu identified the lack of up-to-date teaching equipment as a key challenge facing these institutions. He emphasized that the state’s health sector is a top priority under his administration’s nine-point smart agenda.

“We cannot continue with obsolete teaching tools while technology is advancing rapidly,” he noted.

Aliyu also highlighted his administration’s recent recruitment of over 800 nurses and midwives, a move aimed at addressing the manpower shortage in the health sector. He lauded Faruk’s contributions to the state’s School of Nursing and assured that the administration would leverage his experience for the benefit of the state.

During the event, the governor presented Senator Aliyu Wamakko’s ‘Award of Excellence’ to Faruk in recognition of his outstanding service to the country and Sokoto State.
